Ideas

Idea 1

 A small ARG.

Based around a cult trying to recruit members but when you discover the final recruiting page it shows a blank page with a count down with the words "You're In"

Pros: fun, creative, I'm interested in it,

Cons: Long process, potentially difficult, possibly too edgy,

Idea 2

 Documentary

Create A Documentary along with a poster / website to accompany it

 The documentary would be on

Pros:

Cons:

Idea 3

 Web Series

1 Episode of a web series about a crazy scientist proposing theories and documenting his discoveries

Pros: would be quite fun to create, Relatively easy,

Cons: Could end up quite cringe / tacky, might not be "enough",

Idea 4

 Short Film
A Short film presented as a vlog. About a boy investigating a village cult rumour but he's not alone... Potentially a horror / thriller
handheld style

Pros: relatively simple, interesting, lots of options

Cons: Handheld could make it just bad, if its not done right it will be very bad

My Pick: I decided to pick Idea 1 which is the ARG type project.

Why i picked it: I've wanted to do some sort of ARG based for a while and i feel like the FMP is a good time to express this. Also Idea 2 / 3 don't interest me as much as idea 1 / 4. Idea 3 and me just don't mix, I can't imagine it being a fun thing for me to do but also I don't believe it would come out good at all. When it comes to idea 2 I just don't have any idea's or motivation for another documentary after I made the last one although it could potentially be the safer option.

Extra: If anything I'd potentially morph 1 and 4 together since they are quite similar and it could morph into something very cool but I will definitely have to think about this some more.

Proposal: For Idea 1: ARG

Project Title

 Final Major Project

Unit No

 8

Section 1: Rationale/Review (Level 2 approx 50 words, Level 3 approx 100 words)

Over the 7 Units I've learnt a lot about editing, the codes and conventions, how to use photoshop with a decent amount of skill and filming. Because of the course I feel confident in film making to an acceptable extent and feel like I can create good work. Before I started the course, I knew the odd bits like the 180-degree rule and continuity but now I know so much more like how to properly use adjustment layers, cut out properly in photoshop and a more Indepth view into the theory that I didn’t know. My new Knowledge has influenced me to want to create an ARG because it combines so many skills and knowledge into one project that it will be a true test of what I’ve learned.

Section 2: Project Concept (Level 2 approx 100 words, Level 3 approx 200 words)

The concept of my project is a cult based ARG, the end goal being that you’re recruited into the cult and now you wait. The aim of this project is to create an immersive and interactive reality which builds the problem-solving skill and is overall an enjoyable piece of media. For research I will look at videos from people like Reignbot, atrocity guide, Nightmind and others who create content that looks and tries to solve or breakdown ARG’s, but I will also try and find to find any written work on ARGs and see if there are any theorists that handle the genre that I can investigate and learn from. Hopefully the sources I use will be quite high level because I want to try and make a partially simple but still interesting ARG and I want to know what to avoid. The final piece will include graphical work(s), a series of short / 1 long video and a website. For presentation purposes I could compile all the work and create an explanation video so it's clear what I created for the markers in a style similar to the YouTubers I mentioned earlier.

Section 3: Evaluation (Level 2 approx 50 words, Level 3 approx 50 words)

When Evaluating the final product, I will look at the quality, how I worked, what I changed / my choices and why I made them. When I make changes or decisions, I will heavily note them down so it's clear when I need to evaluate. I will also evaluate how difficult the piece is and reference to my original ideas/ research.

Proposed Research Sources and Bibliography (Harvard Format)

I Don’t know if they exist, but I'll try and find some books that look at ARG’s. I’ll definitely look at some YouTube videos by people who analyse ARG’s but also have a look at any videos that are on what makes an arg. I Intend to do some Instagram polls / general questionnaires to see what kind of age range I should focus on. I’ll also look at ARG sites / current ARG’s that are going on right now to see what's being used in today's climate.
